“Sahwira” is the Shona word that translates to
“closest friend” or “life long friend”.

To be called “Sahwira” is to assume far reaching responsibilities, similar to being a Godparent in the States.  For example, in your absence, your sahwira acts as a trustee in relation to your home and even your family.

To establish and nurture a long term relationship with grassroots organizations promoting improvements in health, education and quality of life for children orphaned by AIDS.

The Sahwira Fund is a nonprofit public charity working in partnership with grassroots organizations to address the critical needs of children orphaned by AIDS.  We believe it is vital to work directly with groups already established within a community, assisting them to meet their needs in caring for, educating and addressing the health needs of children orphaned by AIDS.  Working toward self-sustainability is the goal for all our projects.

We can do no great things, Just small things with great love.”
